At least 60 people have been killed in a series of suicide bombings at the Hamid Karzai airport in the Afghan capital, Kabul. It also includes children and women. More than one and a half hundred were injured.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a U.S. military base. This is the highest number of troops killed in an attack in the history of the US 20-year war in Afghanistan.

IS is behind the suicide attack, says America

The United States has said that Islamic State, or the Afghan branch of IS, may be behind the attack.

The U.S. military sealed off the airport shortly after the attack. As a result, the 10,000 Afghans who have worked for the United States over the past two decades are in dire straits.
